So a few nights ago it hit me. My old 'friend' insomnia returned. It has really been awhile. Not that I have had a summer of perfect sleep... after all there is the 2 1/2 year old that sleeps in a little room 'en suite' and then there is the family member that snores... (Will not mention names. It is a common problem--nothing to be ashamed of... many successful, admired, famous people snore..... right, French Guy?)
Goodness. Too much on my mind. Randomness--some worries, some plans, some anticipation... just the right mix to ensure no more than 2 hours of sleep a night....
Summer vacation officially ends this evening. We did the weekend up in style even though we do not have a long Labor Day weekend here. But we did the requisite burgers on the BBQ, set up the family tent in the field, did a good-bye visit to the lake, tackled some home projects .... being the good ex-pats that we are---we did it up well.
Even on very little sleep.
À la rentrée !---Back to school. So tomorrow my nine year old, 'Middle Garcon' goes to a new school. He is in CM2 or the same as 3rd grade. He is changing schools due to our move last spring to Rabbit Hill. Bigger school, new teacher, longer schedule, new friends.....He is a trooper.
I am a wreck.
Today I did 300 pounds of laundry and counted the number of pairs of pants that he has without holes in the knees. We (I use the term 'we' loosely...) cleaned up his room. We had a huge family dinner of pasta and homemade meat balls... and after dinner we did one last bonfire at our 'camp site' to send off the summer evenings--- again in style. I even asked him what his goals and aspirations for the school year are.... he is still thinking about it I am sure.
As soon as he stops giggling about it.
The Teen goes back to school on Wednesday. Same school. He's looking forward to it. Cool.
Lest I should ramble on and on and on..... I will make a big attempt to keep this short.
A tiny bit stressed about closing up Sunday Brocantes on Etsy this past weekend. Although I mostly preach 'go forth and conquer"... as in my last post---I also am human and after making a big change decision--despite how excited I am about the 'next thing'...self doubt does inevitably creep in--and thoughts like, 'What!?! Am I nuts?!" prevail. The 'new' shop which will be here on this site--will launch in a few weeks.... I am so excited I have butterflies thinking about it..... but still I have also shut down (albeit temporary) one of my few sources of personal income-----eeeeeeeek.
Otherwise--I am also lying awake at night going over the home projects we have been tackling. A following post will show you the kitchen transformation---I am in LOVE with the space and I am in love with the process of creating it from scratch. You may have seen some pics on Facebook. I promise some 'before and afters' very soon!
And as far as summer goes... it is not over yet.
There are tricks to holding on to it. Summer eating can go for a while more---fresh, healthy--is always available. Bonfire season is actually only just starting--and don't think that the tent won't be back up this weekend! As far as my anxiety about Middle Garcons new school--I bet that once again he will amaze me---and be better than fine. My 'new' shop will happen as soon as it happens--with great aspiration and lots of prayer---the key to success. And all else will work out just perfectly--or as it should.
It always does.
Except for the snoring.
But we have a guest room. Currently not occupied. For two more weeks.
Happy Labor Day mes amis Americains!
Have a fabulous week ahead!
